A Major Announcement

I get to keep a nice, normal, non-military hairstyle once again!

Woohoo!

A Thing About Luck

Here's something to think about the next time you use the word, "luck".

The first three letters are LUC. Duh.

That's the same letters for the name, LUCifer.

In other words, it seems that the word luck derives from the name Lucifer, the fallen angel, a.ka. Mr. S. A. Tan himself.

This idea is not my own but it makes sense.

While thinking about it, I suddenly realized that the phonetic sound of lucky is very similar to the name Loki.

As taken from wikipedia:
"Loki or Loke is the mythical giant/deity of mischief in Norse mythology... He is described as the 'contriver of all fraud'... Loki bears many names: Lie-Smith, Sly-God, Shape-Changer, Sly-One, Lopt, Sky Traveller, Sky Walker and Wizard Of Lies among others."

Coincidence?

Crossover

Imagine having two favourite TV shows. Wouldn't it be nice if the characters in the two shows were to mix together into one show?

TV show producers also thought it would be nice so hence they decided to come up with "crossovers". A crossover episode is when characters from another show appear in another show. Not only did it add an interesting twist to our favourite shows, but it created a whole new dimension to viewing enjoyment.

Crossovers were so successful that entire crossover series were created. An example of this is the Justice League series where we see favourites like Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman and other characters come together in one show.

However, what is lost in the process of crossovers is the uniqueness of that one show. It kind of makes Superman look bad if we expect Batman to appear to save his arse everytime he's up against a villian with kryptonite. Sometimes I watch an episode of Batman and when he's in trouble and it seems like there's no way for him to save his hide, I would expect Superman to burst in and say, "Hey, Bruce- er, Batman, I just happened to be flying around the neighborhood and I noticed you're in a pinch. Need a hand?"

I guess what I'm trying to say is that crossovers are good once in a while but there are times when it's better for a show to be by itself without having to rely on other shows.

Also, just because one crossover episode is a success it doesn't mean that it will always work with the masses. It's too much to ask to try and use what's already been worn out.

Once the crossover is over, it's pointless to try and force it to continue. The respective characters need their own time to shine and to grow. If another crossover were to be scheduled in the future, then it will bring with it the stronger and better elements from each show and make an even better one.

No complaints about my new job. =)

Administrative Specialist Assistant in the Recruit Management Section of Pulau Tekong Headquarters.

Yup, nothing like working in a haunted holiday resort to make my life more interesting.

-----

Note to self: Make sure you know what a word mean before using it in order to avoid embarrassments such as calling a female non-commissioned officer, "Encik". =D

An Irony: Pasir Leba Camp, no PSP allowed, I bring my PSP. Apparently, Pulau Tekong, PSP can, I don't want to bring.

The Great Black Hole of NS appears once more and sucks away one whole day of my life.

After waiting the whole morning, I find out that I will be sent to do office work in the Ghost Island; Pulau Tekong.

Upon hearing of my posting, one guy makes a casual remark about how it's kinda bad because most postings to Pulau Tekong are stay-in. I knew that staying in is optional so I wasn't worried. However, the chief clerk heard his remarks and decides to punish him for making negative remarks and says that I will stay while he goes to the island.

It was such a sudden punishment that it was too hard to believe to be true. I spent the other half of the day waiting to find out if that was truly what was going to happen.

Only until the later part of the day that I find out that both of us will be Ghostbusting.

I hate the fact that I spent a whole day stoning, eat breakfast (again), stoning, eat lunch, stoning, join some nice friendly people as they eat lunch (a real nice and funny bunch they are), stoning while listening to the radio, oh and sleep as well.

I could have finished another book in that time but clever me forgot to pack the current novel.

Sigh.

Quite excited about going back to Tekong. Hopefully I can settle in and adapt fast.

It's kind of a funny feeling when you wait for something for so long and when you finally have it, you don't know what to make of it.

I've been waiting for so long to get my new posting. I think it's what I've been praying for: Nearer my house, 8am to 5pm working hours (I think, I haven't confirmed), and 5-day work week.

I felt a mix of joy and sadness upon finding out about my posting. I'm happy and thankful that I get what I have been asking God for but then I'm leaving so many "brothers" behind.

It may have been for but a short while but I felt like these guys have become my family. We've spent everyday together slacking, working, shit-working, siam-ing shit-work, wayang-ing and more importantly watching Channel 8 dramas.

Thanks for the great experience, guys: (nicknames have been used to preserve anonymity)

You all have made staying in OOC Bunk 2-12 a great experience.

All the best in your postings.

God Helps The Helpless

taken from The One Thing - Daily Devotional From New Creation Church‎

Psalm 63:7 Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

I have had people tell me, “Pastor Prince, please pray for me. I can’t see a way out of the mess I am in. I know this whole thing is my fault. Right now, I don’t even know whether God will hear my prayers.”

If you think about it, a whole lot of our troubles are of our own making. But it is when we deserve the punishment and not the blessing that we can receive grace — the undeserved favour and unmerited help of God!

When we stop trying to be deserving of God’s help, we find God more than willing to be our saviour. But when we continue to try to work things out, we are our own saviours. God will say, “Save yourself because I can’t help you when you don’t need My help.”

You might be thinking, “But Pastor Prince, don’t you know, God helps those who help themselves?”

Contrary to popular belief, this saying that “God helps those who help themselves” is not in the Bible! God does not help those who help themselves. God helps those who are helpless and dependant on Him. He helps those who look to Him as their only source of help for their problem.

If you say, “My problem is that I am so weak.” God says, “That is not a problem. I am your strength.”

If you say, “Lord, my face is the problem. I am ugly.” God says, “My face will shine on yours. I am your glory.”

If you say, “Lord, I am the problem. I am a nobody.” God says, “I will make you a somebody.”

Unfortunately, many of us are still trying to help ourselves, thinking that for certain matters, we don’t really need God. But God says, “Without Me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Do we really believe that? Or do we believe that without Him, we still can do some things to help ourselves?

Only when we realise that we can do nothing, and are nothing in and of ourselves, can we do all things through Christ who strengthens us! (Philippians 4:13) Then, we will see the undeserved, unmerited help and favour of God deliver us from every evil!

Thank God for Mom

After a date with Mom:

Mom: So are you wooing anyone?

Me: *smiles and shakes head*

Mom: Planning to woo anyone?

Me: No. Haha.

Mom: You don't know how to woo a girl? Just like your father.

Me: *smiles*

Mom: It's good. Don't rush into anything. Take your time.

You are my freedom

Jesus, you're the reason

I'm kneeling again at Your throne

Where would I be without You

Here in my life
Congratulations, John.

You've done it again.

Idiot.
