Jam and Butter

It's confirmed. I am doing vocals for the rock band this coming Thursday. It must have been out of desperation on the part of the band since they had to find someone on such short notice.

Now I'm getting comments on my showmanship. I am not a vocalist and everyone is giving me tips on what to do, what not to do. It's a great experience to be in a band. We stayed until late in the Cultural Centre jamming and polishing up the performance. It was really fun.

We're going to have bigger muscles soon from carrying the drums, amplifiers (they weigh a lot!), and all other equipment all over the place.

The ride on our teacher's car was fun. I had a lot of laughs.

-----

The school main gate was closed and Natt says, "Quick just ram through it!"

-----

Ben went to open the school main gate and close it back and we told the teacher to drive! She played along and slowly moved the car away from Ben. Haha. Ben jumped on the back of the car! Haha. When he finally came in, the teacher said it was the rest of us who told her to leave him. Ben so cool and calm said, "I guessed as much."

-----

Edwin and Sugato were going to alight at Potong Pasir and the teacher asked Edwin if it was alright if they were dropped off across the street. Sugato answered it was fine and Natt snipped, "You're not Edwin!"

-----

Ben had a call. I shall try and replicate what we heard.
Ben:
Hello?
What?
I talking to you.
I talking to YOU.
I'm on the way home.
Just finished.
The guitar one lah.
I'm in my teacher's car.
What do you mean what car?
It's not a BMW lah.
Does it matter?
My friend.
Does it matter?
Haiyah.
Ok, ok.
Bye.

Mother's can ask the most irrelevant questions sometimes.

-----

Natt stays in a hostel and when we asked where it was, he said, "There, it's that place that looks like a prison."

-----

Anyway, I reached home late yesterday. I have a reason to be late for rehearsals today =D

It starts at 9am. I shall go eat breakfast now. =)

The 2nd Story

Pastor decided to go for a drive because he needed a quiet place to prepare his message. He stopped at some quiet place. While he was there, he saw a man throw a drink can on the street. Pastor joked that the “Singaporean in me rose up” and he honked his car’s horn at the man and pointed at the can, gesturing for the man to pick up the can.

The man realized his mistake and picked the can up, but as he was going towards a dustbin, the man stopped, turned, and walked towards Pastor’s car. Obviously the man was thinking, “Who are you to tell me what to do?”

Pastor saw this and he also realized that the man was quite muscular. This was clearly trouble and Pastor prayed, “God, help!”

Immediately, out of nowhere, Pastor had the inclination to take out his wallet and flip it out and flip it back. It looked like he was a policeman or something. With that, the man stopped in his tracks, saluted apologetically and went on to throw the can into the basket.

Wisdom when you need it.

Here are two funny stories that was shared by Pastor Prince last Sunday. The message was about wisdom and these examples are taken from his life of when God helped him by giving him wisdom.

The 1st story:
When the church was still small and was having meetings in the then YWCA building (now YMCA), there was an incident where a gangster was out to make trouble for the church. Pastor was an elder then and the senior pastor at that time was away.

Now, the girlfriend of a gangster became a Christian at the church and because of that, she did not hang out with her gangster boyfriend often. She did not do most of the things that they used to do and that made the boyfriend very upset.

The boyfriend called up the church one evening when there was a meeting being held and said, "I'm coming over now." (or something like that)

Being the only elder at that time, Pastor Prince had to meet with the guy. As he was going down the staircase, the man was also going up. Now, a staircase is a very enclosed area with not much place to run. When Pastor met the guy in the staircase he knew he was possibly in a dangerous situation. The man was really heavily built and had protuding muscles - this was a true-blue gangster.

The man saw Pastor Prince and started to voice out his complaints. With his left hand forming a threatening fist, he said, "You people ah, What have you been telling my girlfriend. Blah, blah, blah." As this was going on Pastor in his prayed silently, "God, help!"

Suddenly an image of a bollywood star came to his mind. He used to watch bollywood movies with his mother as a child and the image of one particular star just came up to mind. He realized that the gangster resembled the star and Pastor pointed it out.

"Has anyone ever told you that you look like _____?"

Suddenly the gangster stopped his incessant complaining and began to smile. He became more relaxed an replied, "Really? My friends oso tell me that." He calmed down now and said, "Actually ah, I'm not the type to make trouble in churches. It's just ah, I feel sad you know..."

And they talked it over a cup of coffee at the coffee-shop. Pastor Prince added that he was the gangster's gang sitting at the coffee-shop and they were also big men. At this he joked that actually, there was no need for the gangster to bring his gang because none of his leaders would help him if there was trouble.

Music

Ben and me were on the train when we saw a blind man walk in.

He was carrying a big trolley, a walking stick, and a guitar.

I gained a kind of admiration for the blind man. Here was a man who cannot see but he does not let that get in his way.

I guess, maybe at first, if he was not born that way, he had to deal with the loss of his sight, but he overcame his handicap. Yet, to call it a handicap is also not fitting because from what I saw, he was in no way "handicapped".

What added to my admiration is what Ben told me. The man plays music around the Tampines area. Sometimes he would see the man with another blind man who plays the saxophone.

What hit me was that the blind guitarist and the blind saxophone player can be heard jamming together.

I asked if they knew each other; plan for a show or something. Ben said that they just start playing together. No words needed - just the music.

Music is a language that trancends many boundaries.

Deep, huh? Yah, that's why I'm writing it. =D

I guess what I'm trying to say is that music is a wonderful thing. It can bring people together just as the guitarist and saxophone player can just come together and start complimenting each other with their own music.

That being said, I'm sure many would want a chance to experience the wonders of music. Incidentally, coming up this May, there are many chances in SAJC to experience music.

May 4, 2006 Guitar Concert - Eurhythmy
Tickets are selling at only $5.
It's the first ever concert by the SAJC Guitar Ensemble and will be an event filled with music varying from classical, to contemporary, to rock, and to various other genres. It's an event not to be missed.

May 6, 2006 Band Concert - Saint Ascensio! (I think)
Tickets are selling at only $6.
It's a concert that features music from around the world. Take the journey and experience music from all over the world! It's sure to be an enriching experience. (Descriptions are from what I heard from Ben, if it's wrong, I apologize. Come look for me and I will direct you to Joel, the resident gangster.)

Music is power!

Ok, not really, but it's still good.

Why sit when you can lie?
Why lie when you can sleep standing up?

Goodbyes

I'm going to miss coming home to a warm, "Hello, Kuya!".
I'm going to miss a little bugger playing my gamecube and asking me, "Where I go next?"
I'm going to miss fighting two helpful little girls who insist on washing my plate.
I'm going to miss watching Hamtaro with the little kids.
I'm going to miss the delicious food that my aunt and uncle cooks.
(Not that my mom's cooking isn't delicious.)
-----
At the airport today, I could not help but feel sentimental.
Everyone who comes in through these gates will have to leave through them someday.
I guess it was just too fast.
-----
I'm gonna miss the Little Flash running around the house.

Bored

Yes, it's time for another randominity.

Wahahaha!

I have a lot of anime back-log. All the anime are just out there waiting to be downloaded but there's not enough time to watch them all.

I came home today and saw a dog in the house. It was the neighbours' puppy. It was so cute!

My cousins will be going back soon. Just when I have gotten used to them around the house. =(

I'm sleepy even after taking a 30 min nap just now.

I've finished my literature homework! It's three pages long thanks to double-spacing!

My brother is helping me train pull-ups! Or rather we're helping each other. =D

I'm gonna go back to watching anime now.

Ciao!

Rest

Ah... Guitar camp planning has been really hectic. Soon when it's Guitar Concert, things are gonna be quite busy too.

I'm glad to have the chance to be able to rest after many days of stressing over camp proposals and procedures.

When I first thought of wanting to be part of the ex-co, I told myself that I was not going to be doing things through my own talents and abilities. I know that I don't have much of those two that's why I went for the interviews relying on God's favour to pull me through. Even then I told myself that whatever job I will be doing, God will be doing it with me.

For the first few months, I did my duties happily because I knew I was not relying on my strength to do it. However, after a while, things started to come one after the other. I forgot that I couldn't do it on my own and still I tried to hold the burden of the responsibilities with my own might.

That only led me to being unhappy about what I was doing. I dreaded the long hours of meetings and the long practice schedules. I hated having to go back to school on holidays to plan for this and that.

It took a reminder from a friend that I didn't have to do it alone. The solution was simple. Just pray. The answer was so obvious I was staring at it and couldn't even see it.

I realized that I have divine intervention. A person to pass all my burdens to, and with that I could be at rest; peaceful inside. I'm sure it's God that made the camp smooth so far. I'm sure it will be even better tomorrow.
