Believers and the King

I happen to catch a glimpse of something very interesting in the movie "Anna and the King".

It was the scene where Anna's son started to fight with the son of the king. The arrogant punk thought he was all high and mighty and kept talking in the 3rd person. (Son of king is this, son of king is that...) But that's not the point.

When they started to fight, one small little princess ran to the throne room.

The king was having an audience with someone. Some bugger gave his daughter to the king to curry favour. Needless to say it was quite important (yeah, right). They were bowing before the king when suddenly the princess came in and walked up and straight to the king's lap. She whispered some things, obviously it was to tell the king what was going on.

After that they showed the king carrying the daughter and he came to investigate what had happened.

The thing that struck me was that the daughter of the king could just barge in and go straight to the king's lap. No matter who was having an audience with the king at that moment, she had the privilege of going directly to her father.

As Christians, we have the same right. We are adopted into God's family and He has called us His own. That is why Christians can be referred to as children of God.

It says in Romans 8:15 (New King James Version): For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Abba is Hebrew for father, but if I remember correctly it has an intimate implication.)

We have the same privilege to go straight to the Father and whisper our requests directly because He has adopted us. Simply believe in what His son, Jesus, did for us. Jesus died that we might live and live life more abundantly. He became poor at the cross so that we through His poverty has become rich. He was wounded and pierced, for our sakes.

So do not be afraid to go straight to God's lap and whisper your requests. He already gave Jesus, will He not through Jesus freely give us all things?

There I said it.
