Chapter 1 - The Invitation

The following story is based on a true story...

-=JG=- Chapter 1 - The Invitation -=JG=-

It has been 4 years since JG left his homeland, his relatives, and his school. Now as his uncle's van drew closer to the site of his old school, JG grew anxious, yet excited.

The van stopped a block away from the school and its passengers disembarked. JG's uncle decided to stay and wait as Des, JG, and JG's parents visited the school.

JG's mom bought a little gift for JG's friend because her birthday was coming up. It was a teddy bear. She asked JG to carry it but JG refused. He just felt that a teddy bear was to immature for someone who was turning 18. In the end, it was Des who carried the plastic bag containing the gift.

As JG walked along the wide alley he felt hesitant to make that corner turn towards the school. He did not know what to expect from around the corner.

When he took that step into the unknown, and turned to look at what once was his school, he was stunned for a second at what he saw. It was her - his ex-crush...

He did not expect her to be the first person that he would see. She was standing under the archway waiting for her turn to get food from the food queue. That split-second that he was stunned, he felt like stopping. He was utterly surprised. He immediately took control and walked normally; he did not want anyone to notice the slight hesitation that he just felt.

For some reason, JG's mom was bit more elated than usual. It was as if she was the one meeting old friends. JG just felt awkward. He did not know what to do. After some chit-chat, JG's mom gave him a signal to give the gift. He had decided not to give it, but in the end, he gave in to the circumstance. He motioned for Des to pass him the bag, and he held it out to her.

"" he said almost silently.<> (This means it's in tagalog)

"Thanks."

awkwardness....

She found a chance to pass him a card. He was not sure what it was. He thought maybe it was a greeting card of some sort. He thought it would be rude to open it in front of her.

JG was relieved at the briefness of the visit and yet he regretted that he could not talk more with his friends. Inside the car, he decided to open the card.

The card read:

"You are cordially invited to commemmorate the Debut of ___________"

"Woah, cool!" he thought. Until he saw the date of the event.

"12th of December"

"That's the day that we're going back to Singapore!"

The worst was yet to come. The card had written the names of all the men included in the 18 Roses ceremony. JG was shocked to see the name of the 18th person...

John Gabriel Cruz Utanes

"Dam*" (silently of course)
